Why I Run

My name is Paul and I am a runner. I have been running off and on since grade school. That’s over thirty years. Right now I can say that I run to preserve my sanity. Seriously. I am a better father, husband, manager, and overall human being when I am running than when I am not. I am shorter tempered, make bad decisions, and don’t listen as well when I am not running. It also provides me an escape. As a hard core introvert I go on my long runs sans headphones and enjoy the company of my own thoughts. I also enjoy the fact that on my runs, it is truly the only time when I am solely responsible for just myself. Not my kids. Not my wife. Not my employees. Just me.
In recent years I have taken my running a bit more seriously than I ever did in high school or college. I did a couple of half marathons a couple of years ago and have been trying to train more seriously ever since. Injuries have gotten in my way but I have a plan in place to beat them and train for my second marathon in 2016. Hopefully I can qualify for Boston.
What I will attempt to do here is share some of my running journey and offer some encouragement if possible. I’m a learner and a running junkie so if that describes you as well I’d love to hear from you.
Enjoy the run.
